It's National Cyber Security Awareness Month - Protect Your Company From Risk

This October marks the 10th National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance established this campaign to raise cyber security awareness and help create a safe, secure cyber environment for all.

With all the benefits and convenience of cyberspace, comes the risks to our personally identifiable or proprietary information.

As we continue to shop online, bank on our smart phones, and interact with friends on social media networks, cyber threats will evolve and cause damage at a faster pace.

In order to safeguard information it will require the government, law enforcement the private sector and most importantly, the public to be engaged and keep the lines of communication open.

Through a series of specific initiatives, National Cyber Security Awareness Month will raise awareness and will look ahead at the cyber security challenges for the next ten years, dedicating each week to a different cybersecurity issue:

  • WEEK #1 - October 1-4 Cyber Security is Our Shared Responsibility
    It's critical to ensure a safe, secure, resilient cyberspace where the American way of life can thrive.
  • WEEK #2 - October 7-11 Being Mobile: Online Safety and Security
    Emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity no matter where you are or what device you are using.
  • WEEK #3 - October 15-18 Cyber Workforce & Next Gen Leaders
    Highlights the importance of fostering the next generation cyber workforce through education and training.
  • WEEK #4 - October 21-25 Cyber Crime
    Focuses on national and local efforts to prevent traditional crimes like theft, fraud, and abuse that can also take place online.
  • WEEK #5 - October 28-31 Critical Infrastructure & Cyber Security
    Exploring the growing intersection between cyber and physical security when protecting the Nation’s critical infrastructure.

In addition, the DHS has built a resource called the Stop, Think Connect Toolkit for all segments of the online community.
