Keeping Your Work and Home Life Separate

Written by Drew Smith | May 7, 2020 2:23:25 PM

The sudden need for everyone to work from home thanks to the crisis has created a situation where home life and work life have collided. This results in a drastic change in working environments and the distractions they entail.

There are many things that could make your work-at-home experience more tolerable. The following are good examples of how to do so:

  • Keep your routine: Even if the workflow is disrupting, sticking to a routine can keep your sense of normalcy. Log on about the same time every day, even wake up and do your morning rituals as usual even dressing in work attire. Just because work is in a new place does not mean it should be stopped.
  • Take breaks away from the screen: Even a 15-minute break like taking a walk around the block can do wonders for your mental health. Being cooped up like this can cause some mental fatigue especially staring at a screen all day.
  • Make yourself accountable: Manage your time wisely and keep distractions to a minimum. Keep track of your data usage and time you spend online.

Distractions working at home are inevitable with kids, family and other activities. Managing your time well during this crisis is key to keeping your mind focused. [1]
