About CUMAC
CUMAC commenced its mission in the late 1970s when Paterson teacher Hugh Dunlop identified that his students were struggling to concentrate in school due to inadequate nutrition. Mobilizing the support of his church congregation, he initiated food donation drives to address this issue among his students. Recognizing that hunger was a pervasive problem extending beyond the confines of his classroom, Hugh established a small pantry in Paterson to provide assistance to individuals and families in need. In 1985, the Center of United Methodist Aid to the Community Ecumenically Concerned with Helping Others (CUMAC/ECHO) was formally incorporated to further this humanitarian endeavor.
